Maths Curriculum Intent
Our committed and enthusiastic department believe that all students should be given a varied and balanced experience of mathematics in order to build confidence for the future and to maximise their potential.
“The overall effectiveness of mathematics is Outstanding” OFSTED Jan 2013. This was in all areas, including achievement, teaching, curriculum and leadership.
Our results at KS3, GCSE and A-level are regularly above the national average for similar schools. Students are challenged to succeed at all levels through aspirational target setting, with regular assessment, tracking and intervention, in order to ensure that all students make sustained progress.
Students studying mathematics at All Saints will be able to achieve at all levels up to and including AS and A-level Further Mathematics.
The progress of each individual student is important to us. Our schemes of work enable all students to have a varied and interesting experience in Mathematics with differentiated activities in every teaching unit. Students are encouraged to be creative and flexible in their approach to learning and we cater well for the needs of students of all abilities. At KS5 we deliver a variety of AS and A-level topics including with all courses included Pure, Statistics and Mechanics. Further Mathematics students receive dedicated lessons for this extra A-level and we have many students who go on to study Mathematics at University.
Regular lunchtime and after-school intervention sessions are offered to all KS4 and KS5 students to provide assistance with preparation for assessments and examinations.
At KS3, Highly Able students are invited to a fortnightly ‘Maths Club’ and students from Y7-13 take part in annual ‘Maths Challenges’. Sixth Form students are invited to volunteer as mentors for KS3 and KS4 students.
Students are encouraged to use a variety of websites and apps to support their learning. At KS4 and KS5, students are supported in using the best revision links and resources via teachers using Google Classroom. All students have an individual MyMaths login to assist with their revision and homework.
All classrooms are equipped with interactive smartboards and on Upper Site students have access to computers and individual workspace to use in study periods.
