Fashion Show Success @ Bettys York

Show - multi

The All Saints RC School Fashion & Textiles Department arranged a sell-out fashion show at The Belmont Suite, Bettys York on Monday 25th March 2019. It was the first time I have organised such event outside of school. It was a huge success with parents, students, friends and colleagues all in attendance, including Angela Horner, Nicky Hayer and Olivia Brabbs from the team behind York Fashion Week.

There was a definitely buzz in the air on the first night of YFW19 and Scott Henshall, formerly of Mulberry, was just next door!

The Fashion Show consisted of our Year 10 skirt project, where they develop basic construction skills.

Year 11 all developed very different final products including a tropical print skirt, child's dress, hoody dress with transfer print and CAD embroidery, a Japanese inspired two piece blouse and circle skirt and a powder pale playsuit with a hand embroidered collar.

The Year 12 students selected different contexts such as costume and environmental awareness. Their final pieces were creative and stunning.

Our Year 13 students finished the show with their spectacular yet very wearable outfits, which all demonstrated complex construction skills.

The students were proud to showcase their own and each other’s work on the catwalk, putting on a very enjoyable show in a beautiful location, where the guests enjoyed cakes and tea. We can't wait to start planning next year’s.

I would like to thank all the staff at All Saints RC School York, Angela from Fashion City York and YFW and all at Bettys York, the students involved including Megan from Y12 who photographed the event and Oliva Brabbs for allowing us to use her beautiful photography. I would also like to thank parents, students and colleagues who supported this event.

In organising these events within YFW I aim to raise awareness of the GCSE & A Level Fashion & Textiles courses we offer at All Saints RC School and would like to invite anyone who is interested to attend our annual GCSE and A Level open nights, visit the school website and enquire at [email protected] or [email protected]. Next year it could be you! What better experience than to take part in the excitement of a fashion show and gain first hand work experience in a popular department store and have your designs on show for all of York to see. Why not get in touch!
